I'm so glad this story had a better ending than what I was expecting, but it is still so scary to think of the ways it could have ended...and the ways it does end for many. :( I'm glad your grandparents didn't yell at you. Anyone who leaves a loaded gun in the house--with or without children--should not own a gun.
