Lisa, I am so sorry for the pain you are enduring. But you are so right...if people want to be there for us, they will. I have to admit that part of the reason I left my church community is because I didn't feel supported by them when I was most in need.

While going through an abusive relationship, I had more friends leave me than stay by my side. Sometimes, I think others just don't know how to help, or they are tired of listening to our woes. At least in my case, my friends were tired of me staying, but anyone who has been in an abusive relationship knows it's not always as easy as it seems to leave.

Another thought is, it's hard to be a giver to someone who can't give much back in return...at least not in the moment. Not many people are willing to be the solid ground we need when we are weak. Their empathy reaches an expiration date.

As someone who battles depression and takes medication, I do still understand and agree with the points made in this article about situational depression.

You are so not alone and I thank you for your transparency.
