There truly is no in between when it comes to marketing and advertising both unhealthy foods and healthy foods. It’s all about profiting… Even if it harms other people. just as often as we see ads for alcohol and cheeseburgers, there are also ads for new diets and unsustainable (and sometimes harmful) methods deemed “healthy.” Diet culture is multibillion dollar industry that profits off the insecurities of others. I would argue that this side of the coin is just as responsible for the distress and unhealth of our society. Eating fast food all the time isn’t great for us, but neither is constant restriction and fear of food. I know that that’s not what this article is about, but I can’t help but share this perspective, being someone who has struggled with an eating disorder and taken health so far that it became toxic. There has to be a middle ground, and unfortunately, we have to learn to find that middle ground for ourselves because the media simply cannot be trusted. A lot of this comes from learning to be in tune with your body. Anyone who drinks soda all day, will start to get cues from their body that it needs water. It’s when we haven’t learned to connect with both our mind and body, that the mind starts to run the show and neglect what the body needs.
