What a bummer! But Northern Idaho is so beautiful. We are about 2 hours from Boise and explore a lot of the state when we can. I hope you find something soon. And seriously... look into Baker City!! I could see it being another good compromise for you and your husband. This is where my grandparents moved to retire. Since then, the whole family has followed because we love it so much. :)
